Buck Meredith was named Clarkson Police Chief Friday morning following Anthony Clark's resignation from the position.
The Clarkson City Commission held a special called meeting Friday morning to accept Clark's resignation letter, which was dated July 8 and addressed to Mayor Bonnie Henderson. The letter reads as follows:
Dear Bonnie Henderson:
Please accept this letter as a formal notice of my resignation from my position as Chief of Police with Clarkson, KY.
My last working day was 07-07-24.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the opportunity to serve in your City. I wish you and the City of Clarkson continued success.
Anthony Clark
After reading Clark's letter, the city commission voted to accept Clark's resignation effective July 12.
Henderson was asked if Clark, who was not in attendance at Friday's meeting, would be interested in continuing to serve on the Clarkson Police Department (CPD) in a part-time capacity, but she said he had not indicated he would.
"I think he needs to concentrate on his health," she said.
The commission then voted to name Buck Meredith, the former Clarkson Police Chief who recently rejoined the CPD as a part-time officer, the new chief. He is expected to be sworn in on Monday.
Meredith will continue to serve in a part-time capacity, as he and Police Officer Blake Elmore will each work 20 hours per week, typically on alternating days; however, Henderson said, there will be occasions on which they both work, such as the Clarkson Honeyfest.
