The Clarkson City Commission on Monday voted to use Cleaner Water Grant funding to purchase new equipment for the city’s sewer system.
According to Clarkson City Clerk Scotty Gore, the city was awarded $25,000 to spend on new sewer pumps and $44,936.55 to spend on a camera system and other equipment for the sewer plant.
Additionally, small amounts will also need to come out of both grants to pay Adam Scott, with whom the city recently contracted, for his services in assisting with the grant paperwork, Gore said.
The city commission first reviewed quotes for the new camera system, which is a “crawler” that can travel through the sewer lines up to 400 feet with a backup camera. The system is remote controlled and has its own power source.
The three quotes received for the camera system were from MPE Equipment and Supplies ($21,995), Insight Vision, LLC ($37,628), and Deep Trekker, Inc. ($72,569.68). After discussion, the city commission voted to accept the low bid from MPE Equipment and Supplies.
The commission then reviewed the quotes received for two new sewer pumps for the Clifty Avenue lift station. The three quotes for the pumps and a duplex panel were from Wascon Sales and Service ($26,709.36 plus freight), Straeffer Pump & Supply, Inc. ($68,785 plus freight), and American Pump Repair & Service, Inc. ($90,998 plus freight). After discussion, the city commission voted to accept Wascon’s low bid for the new sewer pumps and panel.
Wascon’s bid also included a second quote for $14,853.39 plus freight for rails, parts, and labor for installing the sewer pumps. This quote was approved by the city commission, as well.
